SLR’s Commitment to Research

Given our specific expertise in caring for those with Alzheimer’s disease, we are committed to promoting research to identify the cause, treatment and possible cure for the disease. Research centers play an important role in the fight against Alzheimer’s, offering clinical trials and performing studies while providing public and professional resources and education to involve the entire community. Every year, several SLR community teams participate in annual “Walk to End Alzheimer’s” events, and associates also conduct additional personal fundraising efforts for the Alzheimer’s Association, including for its annual “Longest Day” fundraiser.

Researchers at the Boston University Alzheimer’s Disease Research center are developing tools for earlier detection and treatment of Alzheimer’s and related dementia.

Why You Should Join a Research Study

There are many benefits of participating in research for individuals living with memory loss, as well as their families and caregivers:

  • Play a more active role in your own healthcare, enhancing feelings of control and purpose
  • Access to potential treatments before they are widely available
  • Receive expert care at great medical facilities at no cost
  • Extra support and new, meaningful connections. Participating in research at a center where people understand, and really get it, helps individuals and their care partners feel like you are not doing on this journey alone.
  • Very importantly, participating in research helps you maintain a sense of hope, not just for yourself but for future generations.

Alzheimer’s Research Participation

SLR is committed to raising awareness about the importance of participating in research to help studies make crucial progress. We do this through outreach and public education to our own residents and their families, as well as to the general public.

Current research studies are poised to make historic strides in the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of Alzheimer’s disease. Two of the leading research institutions in New England are right in Massachusetts, making Boston a hub of innovation and discovery in the field. These centers, Massachusetts Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center (MADRC) and the Boston University Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center (BUADC), are often seeking research participants for a myriad of studies and clinical trials being conducted right now.
